In buildings with a bulk-contract setup (where free internet is provided as a building amenity), the building rules may prohibit individual fiber line installation. Before applying, check with your building management to confirm whether you can install your own individual line.
Home routers (SoftBank Air, Rakuten Turbo, NTT Docomo's home 5G, etc.) require no installation work and can be used the day after you move in, costing approximately ¥4,000–5,000 per month.
Speeds vary by location, but 5G areas can deliver 100 Mbps or higher. Since no installation or building management approval is needed, home routers are a convenient option for renters.

Fiber applications typically require Japanese-language procedures, but Rakuten Mobile and Rakuten Hikari offer relatively good English support. If you moved in through a foreign-specialist property management company (such as GTN), they may provide internet setup assistance.
